Properties / Effects
Pseudoephedrine HCL is a sympathomimetic amine. Its ą receptor action causes marked vasoconstriction, therefore it is useful in the treatment of mucosal congestion. It is used in oral preparations since it is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Triprolidine HCL is an antihistamine effective in relieving the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It relieves sneezing, rhinorrhea ,nasal itch and conjunctivitis.

Indications
Disorders of the upper respiratory tract including the sinuses: common colds, allergic rhinitis, hay fever, nasal congestion, sinusitis.

Side Effects

Central nervous system depression or excitation may occur. May cause drowsiness, sleep disturbances, skin rashes with or without irritation. Dryness of the mouth, nose and throat have been occasionally reported.

Precautions
Since it may cause drowsiness, patients should not drive or operate machinery. Concomitant use of alcohol or other centrally acting sedatives should be avoided. Caution should be exercised in patients with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, elevated intraocular pressure, prostatic hypertrophy and severe renal or hepatic impairment. Should be used with caution in pregnancy and breastfeeding taking into consideration the benefit to the mother and the damage to the child

Contra-indications
It is contraindicated:
-In individuals who have previously exhibited intolerance to it or to any of its constituents.
-In patients with severe hypertension or severe coronary artery diseases.
-In patients who are taking or have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors within the preceding 2 weeks.

Drug
Interactions
Concomitant use with sympathomimetic agents such as decongestants, tricyclic anti-depressants, or with monoamine oxidase inhibitors may occasionally cause a rise in blood pressure .ACTIFERIN may partially reverse the hypotensive action of methyldopa and alpha or beta-adrenergic blocking agents

Dosage
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years:
1 capsule 3 times daily or 10ml syrup .
6-12 years: 5 ml syrup 3 times daily
2-5 years: 2.5 ml syrup 3 times daily
6 months-under two years:
1.25 ml syrup 3 times daily.
