Composition
- MODAL Syrup: Each 5 ml contains: Methscopolamine
nitrate 0.12mg.
- MODAL Drops: Each 1 ml (20 drops) contains:
Methscopolamine nitrate 0.1mg.
Properties and effects
Antispasmodic : Methscopolamine nitrate has a powerful and rapid parasympatholytic effect. It is more efficient and acts more quickly than Atropine or Methylatropine, with the following advantages:
- Marked anticholinergic effect.
- No effect on C.N.S. because this drug does not cross the blood-brain barrier.
- It has more selective antispasmodic effect on smooth muscles .
Indications
- Spastic conditions of the gastrointestinal tract such as:
intestinal colic, pylorospam, hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.
- Functional nausea and vomiting.
Dosage
- Before each feeding 5 to 6 times daily.
- Birth to one year: 2 drops/kg of body weight (MODAL Drops) or ½ teaspoonful (5 ml) of MODAL Syrup.
- One to two years: 20 drops of MODAL drops or one teaspoonful ( 5 ml ) of MODAL syrup.
- Two to six years: 1-2 teaspoonfuls (5 ml) of MODAL syrup.
Side effects
One or more of the following side effects may occur:
Dryness of the mouth, blurred vision, constipation, drowsiness, fatigue, difficulty in starting urination
Precautions
Do not exceed the prescribed dose .Use with care in patients with impaired metabolic liver or kidney function.
Drug interactions
The effect of antimuscarinics may be enhanced by concomitant administration of nervous central system inhibitors and other drugs with similar effect like : amantadine, some antihistamines and phenothiazine, antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants.
The reduction in gastric motility caused by antimuscarinics may affect the absorption of other drugs .
Contra indications
MODAL pediatric syrup and drops should not be used in case of organic obstruction of the gastro-intestinal tract, glaucoma, cardiac arrhythmia or urinary retention.

( Drops) Bottle of 15 ml with dropper .
