MODESTAMINE

COMPOSITION
Each tablet contains: Cyproheptadine HCl 4 mg
Each 5 ml syrup contains: Cyproheptadine HCl 2 mg
MODESTAMINE is recommended for the symptomatic treatment of allergic disorders and pruritic dermatoses, as well as certain types of vascular headaches.
INDICATIONS
- Treatment of acute and chronic allergies and pruritus, such as: eczematoid dermatitis, mild local allergic reaction to insect bites, hay fever and other seasonal rhinitis, anovaginal and chickenpox pruritus.
- Treatment of migraine and vascular types of headache.
- Appetite stimulant; for those patients with decreased appetite with resulting underweight.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
MODESTAMINE should not be used for: therapy of an acute asthmatic attack – children under 2 years of age – pregnant and nursing mothers – glaucoma – stenosing peptic ulcer – predisposition to urinary retention.
All contra-indications are minimal with recommended doses.
SIDE EFFECTS
Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, weakness, headache and nervousness.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Mono-amino oxidase (MAO) inhibitors prolong and intensify the anticholinergic effects of antihistamines.
Patients should be cautioned against ingestion of alcoholic and other central nervous system depressants.
PRECAUTIONS
Antihistamines should not be used to treat respiratory tract symptoms including those of acute asthma. Don’t drive or operate machinery while on antihistamines.
