COMPOSITION
Delayed release pellets equivalent to 20 mg Omeprazole .
PROPERTIES
Oral dosing with Omepramed once daily provides for rapid and effective inhibition of day time and night time gastric acid secretion with maximum effect being achieved within 4 days of treatment.
INDICATIONS
Omepramed is indicated for the treatment of duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, reflux oesophagitis, symptomatic gastro-esophageal reflux disease.
NSAID associated gastric and duodenal ulcers or erosions.
Helicobacter Pylori eradication in peptic ulcer disease, in association with chlarithromycin and metronidazole.
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
CONTRA INDICATIONS
Known hypersensitivity to Omeprazole .
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Omepramed capsules are recommended to be given in the morning and swallowed whole with liquid. The capsule might also be opened and the content swallowed or suspended in a slightly acidic fluid, the suspension should be taken within 30 minutes.
The recommended dosage is 20 mg once daily for 2 weeks, or 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks for more serious cases.
For patients who may not be fully healed after the initial course, healing usually occurs during 4 further weeks’ treatment period. Omepramed is the drug of choice for patients with Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
The dosage should be adjusted individually and treatment continued as long as it is clinically indicated. The recommended dosage is between 20 -120 mg daily.
When the doses exceed 80 mg daily, the dose should be divided and given twice daily.
SIDE-EFECTS
Omepramed is well tolerated and adverse reactions have generally been mild and reversible, rarely rash and/or pruritus, headache, dizziness, paraesthesia, somnolence, insomnia, and vertigo, diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting and flatulence.
DRUG INTERACTIONS
The absorption of some drugs might be altered due to the decreased intragastric acidity like Ketoconazole.
Omepramed can prolong the elimination of drugs metabolized in the liver through cytochrome like Diazepam, Warfarin and Phenytoin.
Plasma concentrations of Omeprazole and Clarithromycin are increased during concomitant administration
PREGNANCY & LACTATION
As with most drugs Omepramed should not be given during pregnancy and lactation unless its use is considered essential.
SPECIAL WARNING AND SPECIAL PRECAUTION FOR USE
When gastric ulcer is suspected, the possibility of malignancy should be excluded as treatment with Omepramed may alleviate symptoms and delay diagnosis.
