COMPOSITION
Each tablet contains: Folic acid 5 mg
PROPERTIES
Folic acid is a member of Vitamin B group, which is essential for DNA synthesis and some amino-acids conversions.
INDICATIONS
Folic acid prevents against: megaloblastic anemia, neural tube defects in new born, frequency of nonfatal myocardial infarction and fatal coronary heart disease, deficiency in patients receiving renal dialysis.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Megaloblastic anemia due to B12 deficiency.
SIDE EFFECTS
Folic acid is well tolerated when given in therapeutic doses.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION
Medafolin is used for the treatment and prevention of: Megaloblastic anemia – Sickle cell anemia – Thalassemia 5 mg/day for 4 months.
Prevention against neural tube defects in new born 5 mg / day starting 4 weeks before pregnancy and continued through the first trimester.
Prevention from deficiency during pregnancy 0.2 – 0.5 mg/day.
Prevention on frequency of heart disease – Patients receiving renal dialysis, 5 mg/day.
Treatment of malabsorption states 15 mg/day.
